The Water Is Wide — Solo Flatpicking Guitar Arrangement in DADGAD Tuning

The Water Is Wide is one of those songs that has been around for centuries. It doesn't need much — the melody carries itself. But when you arrange it for solo guitar with a pick, you have to make choices. How do you hold the bass while the melody moves? How do you keep it breathing?

I arranged this one in DADGAD tuning. It's a good excuse to finally try DADGAD if you haven't — the open strings create a natural resonance that fits this song well. The arrangement covers melody, bass, and rhythm simultaneously, the way I approach all my solo flatpicking work.

The full lesson and tab are available in my Shopify store. The lesson is also included inside Flatpicking Experience for members.
